[Madison, WI] – On Monday, January 6th, new and returning state legislators came together and were inaugurated for the 107th Wisconsin State Legislative Session. State Representative Sylvia Ortiz-Velez of Assembly District 8 (D-Milwaukee) released the following statement post inauguration:
I promise to always put the people first and to fight for the most vulnerable in our communities. Thank you to Assembly District 8, Walkers Point, Barron Park, Polonia, Lincoln Village, Clarke Square, Walkers Square and Muskego Way! Advocating for the needs of our district has and will continue be my priority as your elected voice in Madison.
In addition, committee selections for this legislative session were also announced. I was selected as Ranking Member for the Consumer Protections and Judiciary Committee and will also serve as a Housing and Real Estate Committee member. Having previously served last session on these committees, I am looking forward to working with my colleagues this session to help serve our communities best. Expanding affordable housing opportunities, increasing public safety and tackling consumer concerns are all areas we look towards improving in helping move Wisconsin forward.”
