Rep. Goodwin- We Must Chose Unity Over Division on September 11th
MADISON, Wis. – Today, State Representative Russell Goodwin (D-Milwaukee) reflects on the troubling rise in violence touching so many lives across our country. He made the following statement, uplifting the importance of recentering dialogue, respect, and understanding at the heart of our democracy:
“On this solemn September 11th, we remember the Wisconsinites and Americans whose lives were lost, and the unity that carried us forward in the face of such devastating tragedy. In that same spirit, we also acknowledge the recent tragic loss of Charlie Kirk, whose life was ended due to senseless gun violence. As a husband and father, my prayers are with his family and loved ones. As a legislator, I’m committed to addressing the harrowing increase in political violence that we have seen these past few years.
The path forward for our nation is a challenging one, but it is one that we must walk together. Amidst these acts of violence, I am encouraged by the Wisconsin Legislature’s display of bipartisan action today. AB 388 and AJR 83 passed the Assembly with overwhelming support from Democrats and Republicans alike. These are the types of bills that we need now: bills that expand access to critical healthcare and uplift our communities.
These bipartisan steps show that we can rise above division to deliver hope and healing. That is the Wisconsin I believe in, one where we choose unity over division, compassion over conflict, and hope over fear.”
