Rep. Deb Andraca Statement on Assembly Bill 415 Vote
MADISON, Wis. — Today, the State Assembly voted on an amended version of Assembly Bill 415, a map that legislative Republicans altered to protect members of their caucus. Representative Deb Andraca (D-Whitefish Bay) released the following statement:
“Drawing districts to protect incumbents is the very definition of gerrymandering,” said Andraca. ”No one is more familiar with using gerrymandering to maintain power than Legislative Republicans, who have done just that for over a decade.
“For years, Legislative Democrats have supported the creation of a fair and transparent redistricting process that includes significant public input. We refuse to accept a map that is designed specifically to protect elected officials. I voted no today in order to uphold the principle that voters should choose their representatives – not the other way around. It’s time to turn the page and have candidates compete on their message, not their map.”
