Oriental Theatre placed on National Register of Historic Places

Statement of Alderman Jonathan Brostoff February 14, 2023

As of February 1 of this year, Milwaukee’s own Oriental Theatre is officially a part of the National Register of Historic Places. This comes almost exactly one year after it was listed on the State Historic Registry.

Having been a staple of the Eastside for almost 100 years, the Oriental Theatre is an iconic destination for those looking to take in a movie, anyone who appreciates intricate design, or those just wanting to visit a truly ‘Milwaukee’ landmark.

I want to extend my sincere appreciation to Jonathan Jackson and the hard working staff at Milwaukee Film who assumed control of the Oriental Theatre in 2018 and have worked tirelessly since then to improve the building and receive this designation, all while keeping its historic charm intact.

If you haven’t been to the Oriental lately, I would encourage you to stop by and enjoy this historic destination!
