North Ave. improvements continue to enhance public safety
Designated in the top 10 of the city’s pedestrian high-injury network, funding was approved in late 2022 to reimagine East North Avenue into an excellent street that is safe for all users and brings increased economic activity to the corridor. Through the city’s rapid implementation initiative, work has progressed to enhance safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists alike.
Additionally, protected bikes lanes throughout North Ave. from Cambridge Ave. to Prospect Ave. are being created with designated bike boxes for crossing to provide safe traveling without interacting with vehicular traffic.
Alderperson Jonathan Brostoff is thrilled to see these enhancements being implemented. “These recent projects being completed as part of the North Avenue Street project will improve multimodal transit, curb reckless driving, and make out streets safer for all users,” he said. “I want to thank the Department of Public Works staff for their hard work, as well as Maryland Montessori, Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital, Milwaukee Catholic Home, and our other community stakeholders for advocating for these improvements.”
“This is extremely beneficial for providing a safe way for kids to walk or bike to school, and for seniors that may walk from the senior homes further north along Prospect Ave. I look forward to continued enhancements in the future,” said Alderperson Brostoff.
