The Marquette University men’s basketball team will honor the 1993-94 Sweet 16 team during a halftime ceremony on Saturday, Jan. 18 against Xavier at 1 p.m. CT at Fiserv Forum.

The 1993-94 campaign was highlighted by the program’s first-ever Great Midwest Conference title and the team’s first trip to the Sweet 16 in 15 years.

Marquette finished 24-9 overall under head coach Kevin O’Neill and posted a 10-2 conference record.

MU collected NCAA tournament victories over Southwestern Louisiana and Kentucky before falling to eventual national runner-up duke in the sweet 16.

Jim McIlvaine was named the Great Midwest Conference Player of the Year and Damon Key and Tony Miller both claimed second team all-league accolades. O’Neill was also tabbed the league’s coach of the year for the second-straight season.

Marquette finished 17th in the final top-25 coaches poll and set a then single-season average attendance record at the Bradley Center.

The 1993-94 roster featured seven players who would score 1,000 career points at Marquette and the respective all-time leaders in blocked shots and assists, McIlvaine and Miller.
