MU Law Polling Shows Republicans Underwater on Top Issues
Plurality of Republicans think Tariffs are hurting farmers
MADISON, Wis. — Today, Marquette University Law released polling showing Republicans are floundering on the top issues. Among Wisconsin voters, 69% are very concerned about inflation and the cost of living and 57% think Donald Trump’s policies will increase inflation. Among Independents, 69% believe Trump’s policies will increase inflation. In a purple state like Wisconsin, where statewide elections are historically won by 1% of the vote, these numbers are terrible for Republicans going into the midterms.
More polling showed a disturbing fracture in the Republican base–Republican voters are just about split over whether tariffs help or hurt farmers despite being in favor of policies overall. The GOP’s destabilizing, anti-farmer policies are so decimating to the Wisconsin economy that Republicans like Tom Tiffany, Derrick Van Orden and Bryan Steil who refuse to put Wisconsin first are losing their base as a result.
