MPD earns rarely-awarded accreditation
The Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group Inc. made the announcement of the MPD accreditation yesterday.
Alderman Robert W. Puente said he is pleased and proud at the announcement that the Milwaukee Police Department has received accreditation by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group Inc.
Alderman Puente, a retired MPD captain and vice chair of the Common Council’s Public Safety Committee, said the group’s announcement came after more than two years of assessing whether MPD met certain key standards. “A team of assessors from the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group Inc. determined the police department to be in compliance with 226 applicable standards,” he said.
“The accreditation is difficult to receive, as fewer than 30 of Wisconsin’s more than 400 law enforcement agencies have achieved it with the group,” Alderman Puente said. “I tip my hat to the men and women of the Milwaukee Police Department on receiving the accreditation.”
