Mitchell Named BIG EAST Scholar Athlete

Marquette senior Stevie Mitchell has been named winner of the BIG EAST Men’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete Award. The selection was made by the Conference’s Academic Affairs Committee.

Mitchell will receive a $2,000 scholarship, which may be used for graduate or professional studies.

Mitchell, a native of Reading, Pa., has a 3.97 grade point average as a double major in Finance and Information Systems. The senior guard was selected for Alpha Sigma Nu-Spring 2025, which honors students from Jesuit colleges who distinguish themselves in scholarship, loyalty and service. In January, he was accepted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the international honor society for business students.

On the court, Mitchell has been a prime contributor to the Marquette success. He averages 10.7 points and 4.2 rebounds per game and ranks second in the BIG EAST in steals with a 2.3 mark. The Golden Eagles enter this week’s BIG EAST Tournament with a 22-9 overall record and a 13-7 league mark.

Mitchell is the second straight Marquette student-athlete to win the award. Oso Ighodaro won last year.

The BIG EAST Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is one of many scholarships presented by the conference in the academic year. Twenty-two student-athletes (one male and one female from each of the BIG EAST’s 11 member institutions) will receive postgraduate scholarships as the winners of their respective institutions’ Scholar-Athlete Award. The winners of the institutional and basketball awards are then eligible for the BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, which provides an additional postgraduate scholarship to one male and one female student-athlete.
