Mitchell Airport Director asks USPS to deliver mail during RNC

Shortsighted decision will stop mail delivery to Airport administration and tenants

MILWAUKEE (July 12, 2024) – Milwaukee County Airport Director Brian Dranzik released the following statement today on behalf of Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport:

“This week, the Airport was informed that the United States Postal Service (USPS) will not deliver any mail to the Airport campus during the week of the Republican National Convention (RNC), which is being held in Milwaukee July 15-18.

“This decision from the USPS not only affects mail delivery to Airport administration, but also to our many tenants and business partners. Even though our loading dock is closed to deliveries due to RNC-related security, we have provided numerous other options for the USPS to park their vehicles and deliver mail in a safe and efficient manner.

“The Airport provides essential services and is open 24/7. The USPS’s inability to deliver any mail to the Airport will cause unnecessary delays in business operations. In addition to inbound deliveries, outbound mail from the Airport, including mail deposited in the Airport’s public mailbox used by travelers, will be delayed as well.

“Even more disappointing, the USPS has refused our request to have a meeting to discuss this matter. I am calling on Louis DeJoy, Postmaster General of the United States and CEO of the U.S. Postal Service, and Wanda Prater, Milwaukee Postmaster, to correct this shortsighted decision and ensure that the USPS will continue to service the Airport and its tenants without interruption, including during the RNC.”

“Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds”

So this convention must be some really bad sh*t!
Will we be allowed to flush our toilets?
    Will there be curfews?
    Better hide our womenfolk!

PS: Why would anyone bother asking
DeJoy to do the right thing?
He’ll probably furlough the affected employees.

  2. Marty Ellenbecker says:

“loading dock is closed to [mail] deliveries due to RNC-related security,” Why aren’t passenger flights being rerouted to nearby airports for safety?

Will FedEx deliver Social Security checks?

  3. Duane says:

So Postmaster General Louis Dejoy is still hard at work destroying the USPS. Only the U.S. Postal Board of Governors can vote to replace him. In December 2023 there were 2 vacancies on the U.S. Postal Board of Governors. In March Biden nominated former Labor Secretary Marty Walsh to fill one vacancy. I haven’t seen anything about the other vacancy and I don’t know if Walsh will be confirmed anytime soon. I know it’s not as important as making sure the Israeli right wing government has enough bombs to repeatedly bomb Palestinian children, “accidently” of course, but many US citizens care deeply about the USPS. What is the freaking hold up “sleepy Joe”?

  4. Duane says:

(Biden nominated Val Demings to fill a USPS Board of Governors yesterday, from an MSN article)…

“On Thursday, Politico congressional correspondent Anthony Adragna reported that Biden was nominating former Rep. Val Demings (D-Florida) to fill the last remaining vacancy on the USPS Board of Governors. She, along with former Labor Secretary Marty Walsh, are now awaiting confirmation by the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, which is chaired by Sen. Gary Peters (D-Michigan).

Should both Demings and Walsh be confirmed, that would give Biden seven appointees on the nine-member board overseeing USPS. And because the Postmaster General’s hiring and firing is up to the board and not Biden, that could mean that DeJoy could be removed from his post by the time Biden leaves office in January of 2025.

Biden appointees have held a majority on the USPS board since 2022, when three of his appointees were confirmed by Peters’ committee. However, his appointees have been slow to fire DeJoy given his close partnership with the Biden administration on clean energy policy”.

(I don’t know what they are talking about in the last paragraph, USPS leadership is dragging their feet on transitioning to electric vehicles. Why would Biden be happy with that? And more “bad” news as in “why is Biden doing this?” apparently Biden also “nominated” Republican William Zollars who used to work at YRC Worldwide, is a LeJoy supporter and used to be on the USPS Board of Governors until Dec 2023. WTF!)
