Milwaukee’s 3rd District Aldermanic Candidates to Appear at March 25 Forum Hosted by East Side Neighborhood Associations

By - Mar 13th, 2025 01:55 pm

Five East Side Neighborhood Associations will host a 3rd District Aldermanic Candidate Forum on Tuesday, March 25 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 2618 N. Hackett Avenue.

Candidates Daniel Bauman and Alex Brower will face off April 1 in a general election to fill out the remainder of the term of the late Jonathan Brostoff as 3rd District Alderman on the Milwaukee Common Council. Bauman and Brower were the top two of eight candidates to advance out of the primary election held on February 18. Just 46 votes separated the two finalists in the primary.

The forum will provide the 3rd District community with the opportunity to learn more about the candidates running for the council seat, where they stand on the issues important to voters in the district and meet them after the event.

Co-sponsors for the event include Murray Hill Neighborhood Association, Historic Water Tower Neighborhood, Cambridge Woods Neighborhood Association, Mariners Neighborhood Association MKE and East Bank Neighborhood Association.

The non-partisan special election was called after the death of Brostoff, who won the seat in a special election in November 2022.

The 3rd District includes the East Side from Edgewood Avenue to the north, Pleasant Street to the South and the eastern half of Riverwest to Lake Michigan.

The in-person forum will run for approximately 90 minutes. Pre-selected questions will be presented to each candidate by moderator Bruce Murphy of Urban Milwaukee, with candidates having timed responses. Only the candidates and the moderator can speak during the event. There will be an opportunity to meet the candidates after the forum concludes.

Questions for the candidates will address topics important to 3rd District voters such as city services, quality of life issues, zoning and development including the Milwaukee’s Growing MKE zoning initiative, reckless driving and traffic calming, crime and safety, taxes and city budget concerns, and affordable housing projects.

Residents can join the forum virtually using this Microsoft Teams link. Information about the forum and how to attend virtually will also be provided to members and residents by the co-sponsoring neighborhoods through emails and news releases.
