Milwaukee Downtown announces summer schedule, reveals Heart(beats) of the City series
“Summer in the City” campaign to bundle Downtown’s summer happenings and offer a staycation giveaway
MILWAUKEE (April 28, 2022) – In an effort to welcome visitors and employees back to the heart of the city, Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21 is launching a “Summer in the City” campaign. “Summer in the City” will highlight a series of free events coordinated by Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21, as well as by partner organizations. At the center of the campaign is a staycation giveaway and a dedicated webpage where users can find listings of countless summer events in and around downtown Milwaukee.
Heart(beats) in the City powered by MGIC, a new weekly concert series set to rock Red Arrow Park every Wednesday at 12 p.m., will debut June 1 – July 27. The event will feature a new local band each week performing on the upper terrace. Bands include Chicken Wire Empire (June 1), “V” Funk (June 8), Rob Knapp & the Soul Patrol (June 15), Donna Woodall Group (June 22), The Rumskis (June 29), Extra Crispy Brass Band (July 6), Rhythm Kings (July 13), Hopper’s Luck (July 20), and KOJO (July 27). Meanwhile, downtown employees are invited to grab lunch from one of the food trucks that will surround the event with cuisines ranging from South American to Filipino to All-American barbeque.
“With more downtown employees returning to the office, we wanted to welcome them back in a big way,” said Beth Weirick, CEO of Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21. “We’re celebrating their return, the return of summer and this amazing city all season long.”
The “Summer in the City” campaign will also include a social media photo contest for a chance to win a staycation at Saint Kate – The Arts Hotel. Downtown employees can enter June 1 – July 17, 2022 by posting a photo of themselves at one of Downtown’s several free summer events using #MKEItBack and tagging @MKEDowntown on Instagram and @MilwDowntown on Twitter. One downtown employee will be selected at random to receive a $500 gift card redeemable at Saint Kate – The Arts Hotel.
Beyond concerts, festivals and events, public art continues to flourish. Two new murals, supported by Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21, started earlier this month, including a photorealistic mural of Bucks champion Giannis Antetokounmpo by Mauricio Ramirez on 600 EAST building at 600 E. Wisconsin Avenue, and a 414 Day mural by Sid Ylagan behind the Plankinton Arcade building at 161 W. Wisconsin Avenue.
