Milwaukee Area Science Advocates (MASA) to Host Kickoff Event at Anodyne

MASA to hold their inaugural community event at Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co. in Walker’s Point

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Area Science Advocates (MASA) will hold a Kickoff event at Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co. in Walker’s Point in Milwaukee on Sunday, June 11, 2017. The event will begin at 4 p.m. with live music including Milwaukee musician King Courteen and will include food trucks, science demonstrations, and a panel of speakers.

The panel of speakers will be focused on how climate change is affecting science education, public health, and sustainability. Speakers on the panel will include:

The panel discussion is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. and will be moderated by Brandon Gross, Advocacy Director of MASA. Live music to follow starting at 6:30 p.m. featuring music by Milwaukee band Coyote.

A Kid’s Science Zone will be available throughout the event with various activities and performances. At 5 p.m. Thrive Service Learning will present a story that speaks from the perspective of a child exploring scientific methods to solve a question. At 6:30 p.m. Tony’s Creepy Crawly Zoo will present a live demonstration of bugs.

The event will include a voter registration table hosted by the League of Women Voters. MASA will also provide the opportunity to send a postcard to a legislator of your choosing with a message about why protecting the Great Lakes matters to you. Other organizations providing science exhibits and activities include: Discovery World, American Science and Surplus, Milwaukee Makerspace, MSOE Center for Biomolecular Modeling, and the City of Milwaukee Environmental Collaboration Office (ECO).

Food trucks will be available at the event from 4-7:30 p.m. and will include Lumpia City and Blue Cow Creperie. The event will be composted by Compost Crusader. A silent auction will be held in support of MASA with auction items including: Milwaukee Public Museum tickets, Discovery World passes, Denis Sullivan sailing vessel certificates, an Edward Tufte book set, and more!

Join the community at Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co. in Walker’s Point on Sunday, June 11 from 4-7:30 p.m. to celebrate science and promote science education, public health and sustainability in the Milwaukee area. The event will include opportunities for you to find out how you can get involved with MASA and future community events.
