Milwaukee Alphas and Alderman Stamper working to say “Thanks!” to local essential workers
The Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. will team up with Alderman Russell W. Stamper, II on Saturday (July 25) to recognize the bravery and dedication of essential workers in neighborhood grocery stores.
On Saturday, the Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Delta Chi Lambda Chapter, and Alderman Stamper will provide lunch for the employees of two Family Dollar stores in Milwaukee neighborhoods that have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19. Lunch will begin 11 a.m. at the 2117 W. Center St. store, then continue at 12 p.m. at the 2214 N. 35th St. location.
“The community is grateful for the important role they are playing during this emergency, and this is a positive way to express our thanks,” the alderman said.
The Alphas will also furnish one employee from each store with a special award for going above and beyond the call of duty during the pandemic.
“People have been going to great lengths to celebrate medical staff, EMS, firefighters, police, etc.,” observed Dr. Kenny Yarbrough, chaplain of the Delta Chi Lambda Chapter and leader of the effort, “but these (grocery store) workers have not been celebrated as much.”
