New third floor space to foster continued academic excellence for even more students

MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee Academy of Science is celebrating the completion of its third floor expansion, which will allow the school to better serve its scholars and increase enrollment by 250 students, for a total of up to 1,500 students, by 2024.

The new space includes four high school classrooms, four middle school classrooms, eight staff offices, and three multi-purpose science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) labs. The labs are outfitted with state of the art equipment, a generous donation from Milwaukee Tool.

“This expansion ushers in an exciting new era of growth and opportunity,” said Anthony McHenry, CEO of Milwaukee Academy of Science. “Thanks to our generous donors and partners in this project, Milwaukee Academy of Science can continue to offer our scholars unmatched educational opportunities that will serve them through their academic careers and beyond and expand to serve even more Milwaukee students.”

The project also received substantial funding from Northwestern Mutual, through its Foundation, which recently announced a $500,000 gift as part of the company’s long-term focus on investing in high-quality education at targeted public, charter and choice schools in Southeast Wisconsin.

Several other local foundations, including the Burke Foundation, Todd Wehr Foundation, the Bradley Foundation, Kohl Philanthropies, and Milwaukee Tool have contributed significant donations to the $5 million capital campaign.

Milwaukee Academy of Science boasts an impressive academic record. For seven consecutive years, the school’s graduating class has achieved a 100% graduation and college acceptance rate and for the last three years has been the only school to be graded with ‘Exceed Expectations’ per DPI annual report cards that serves a 96%economically disadvantaged population through high school.

Construction on a new gymnasium is also underway and will be complete by Spring 2022.
