Marquette Places Eighth at NCAA Urbana Regional
Freshman Vincent Cervantes (15th) is MU's highest finisher ever at NCAA Regional
URBANA, Illinois – Freshman Vincent Cervantes finished 15th overall, the best finish ever for a Marquette University men’s golfer in NCAA Regional competition, with a 3-under 210 at Atkins Golf Club in the NCAA Urbana Regional on May 12-14.
Cervantes posted a team-best six birdies on Tuesday and added three on Wednesday for a total of 12 this week to lead MU. His second round bettered the previous MU single-round record score (68) posted by teammate Patrick Adler on Monday and Brandon Cloete in the 2015 NCAA Noblesville Regional.
Marquette’s eighth-place finish tied the program’s best finish at an NCAA regional, tied with the 2019 squad that went 28-over in Austin (290-297-293—880).
Oklahoma State and tournament-host Illinois shared the team title at 15-under par. The top five teams from each regional advance to the NCAA Championships later this month.
