Local Restaurants Spice Up St. Ann Center’s Chili & Jewelry Sale

Turn up the heat at St. Ann Center’s Warm Your Heart Chili & Jewelry Sale on Saturday, March 10, with dozens of varieties of chili donated by popular Milwaukee-area restaurants and home cooks.  The event runs from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Stein Campus, 2801 E. Morgan Ave.

More than a dozen restaurants are donating signatures chilies from meaty to vegetarian, spicy to mild and traditional to inventive.  Look for varieties from Real Chili, Beans & Barley,Café Centraal, Café Corazon in Bay View, The Tandem, Out & Out of Cedarburg, The Saucy Swine at Redbar, The BackyardThe Bartolotta RestaurantsOn the Bayou,  Lulu Cafe & Bar,  The Cudahy Burger JointOutpost Natural Foods Co-opAmaranth Bakery & Cafe, The Soup Market, and St. Francis Brewery & Restaurant, as well as specialties from  home cooks. Buy a flight to sample several varieties, or indulge in a brimming bowlful of your favorite, with cheese, sour cream, crackers and other favorite fixings.

Fashionistas, meanwhile, will find a collection of hundreds of pieces of vintage, retro and heirloom jewelry in all styles—from rings, necklaces and bracelets to pins, earrings and watches—at bargain prices. Jewelry is regularly donated by local churches, schools and individuals; St. Ann Center volunteers sort, clean, repair and price each fashionable piece. Any pieces beyond repair are grouped for bulk sale to artists and crafters.

Also showcased will be one-of-a-kind creations designed and handcrafted by Sr. Edna Lonergan, St. Ann Center founder and president. Sr. Edna began designing jewelry years ago as a pastime and a way to supplement funding for the children, elderly and adults with disabilities served by St. Ann Center.

For more great buys, explore the spacious atrium, where more than 25 vendors will offer fresh produce, local honey, handmade soaps and lotions, quality needlecrafts and décor,  handmade wooden tops, local artists, skincare items, kettle corn and Mexican and Brazilian food. As you shop or eat your chili, you’ll enjoy live music from the Non Prophets, an entertaining group of singers and pickers whose repertoire ranges from folk and rock to bluegrass and Americana.

All proceeds from the jewelry and chili sale go to support the care of children and adults of all ages and abilities at St. Ann Center.
