In this exhibition, Mrozinski presents us with an intimate view into his living room, where he traces the shadows of houseplants and loved ones directly onto canvas from the light of one window.

In this exhibition, Mrozinski presents us with an intimate view into his living room, where he traces the shadows of houseplants and loved ones directly onto canvas from the light of one window. He turns these pencil lines into light filled spaces through color, optical blur and painterly drip that cause the work to be both illusive and revealing. The paintings have been described as “illuminated afterimages” and as “glowing from within”.

Opening Reception: Friday, April 18th from 5-9pm

Artist Talk: Saturday, April 19th starting at 1pm

Exhibit runs from April 5-May 4, 2014. Gallery will be open Saturdays from 1-4pm and by appointment.

Bio:

Born in Rensselaer, IN in 1974, Todd Mrozinski has loved to paint for as long as he can remember. He acquired his BFA in painting from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 1997 and in 1996 attended The New York Studio Program. He has been in numerous solo and group exhibitions and his work is in public and private collections nationwide. Todd’s work is currently included in “Clothesline Musings” at The Painted Bride Art Center in Philadelphia, PA. Other exhibitions include, “A Stitch in Time” at Art Upstairs Studio Gallery, Milwaukee, WI, “Rooted in Nature” at Elaine Erickson Gallery, Milwaukee, WI and “Teapots to Still Lifes” at Spring Street Gallery, Galena, IL.

By focusing on two main bodies of work, shadow and clothing paintings, he explores the power of a subject’s presence through its absence. Meditation, as well as the following of inspiration and free flowing expression, are essential to his working practice. Todd sees and shares the beauty and illumination of light and personality through drips and skeins and piles of paint. He and his wife, Renee Bebeau, have a studio in The Nut Factory, Riverwest, WI. He is currently represented by Woodman/Shimko Gallery, Palm Springs, CA.
