MILWAUKEE – Calling all those medicated! We want your pill bottles. Kelly Anderson Dance Theatre will be collecting empty pill bottles from the public- at multiple locations across Milwaukee- for use in the upcoming premiere of WEALTHcare: “an episode” at Danceworks this March. This new work is a true American tale of the triumphs and trials in the life of someone with a “pre-existing condition.” What better way to express the frustration than to collect massive amounts of pill bottles, which shouldn’t be too hard to do. We know there are a lot of you out there- so, let’s get “a dose” of the community spirit!

Drop-off locations include: Rush-mor Records, Danceworks Inc., and Healium yoga studios: Restore Yoga MKE, Healium HIIT!, and Healium Hot Yoga- Bay View and West Allis. Please deposit EMPTY bottles ONLY and feel free to keep the labels on (marking out all imporatant information), or remove the labels entirely. KADT will be collecting bottles through Monday, March 3rd.

And don’t miss the performance! Side Effects & Smoking Meat will feature original works by Bound and KADT, including:

WEALTHcare: “an episode” by Kelly Anderson Dance Theatre

She’s been handed medication as if it were candy and combinations as if they were cocktails. But this isn’t Halloween and certainly not “Happy Hour.” Every day for 40+ years she’s had to navigate a tricky path to wellness, with plenty of bumps along the way…all because of the one on her head. From encountering red tape to balancing an empty bank account, the only system she’s forced to depend on is one that often fails her. Somebody call an ambulance! Because we definitely have a health emergency our hands.

WEALTHcare: “an episode” is Chapter 1 of an ongoing series of dance theatre works reflecting on the individual and collective experience of navigating wellness.

Contributions by Project Bound Dance-

“A Theory On Staying” by Emily Loar with movement performance by Kathryn Hetrick. Set to an original long-form poem by Emily Loar, A Theory on Staying indulges on themes of self worth, developing sexual identity, intimacy, and self-destructive habits. This performance will feature a live reading by Emily Loar with the original movement material redeveloped for founding Bound dance artist Kathryn Hetrick.

“Faded Billboards (Relatable)” by Emily Loar in collaboration with Ali Lorenz is about the metaphors often used to soften and relate personal mental health experiences to one another. Used as a vehicle to dive into co-directors Deran and Loar’s philosophies on dance partnering, the work also explores themes of neurodivergency and its effects on communication, focus, emotional regulation, and memory.

“Smoking Meat” by Bound co-directors Ashley Deran and Emily Loar is a dynamic ensemble work that explores constructed notions of safety. Using both man-made and natural occurrences of armor as a metaphor (think the humble hermit crab, or building a shelter), Smoking Meat is a research into energetic extremes, supersized alter egos; social posturing, and notions of safety. Influences on this thread of inquiry include no to punk and metal scenes, gym culture, professional wrestling and fighting communities; fantasy and live action role playing spaces; high fashion; and beauty pageants. Smoking Meat fantasizes about larger than life bodily additions and animal predators, and reflects upon the commodification of bodies and attention, and we give up of ourselves in the pursuit of physical and social safety.

The cast of WEALTHcare: “an episode” will feature KADT ensemble members- Kelly Anderson, Cheryl Cornacchione, Danielle Gilmore, Sarah Morimoto, and Michael O’Neill. Project Bound Dance company ensemble artists will include Kathryn Hetrick, Emily Loar, Ali Lorenz, and Sarah Morimoto.
