In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, Milwaukee County-based organizations are inviting community members to the Discover Wellness Walk, a family-friendly event that will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, May 18, in Cathedral Square Park, 520 E. Wells St., Milwaukee.

The Discover Wellness Walk aims to connect the community in conversations about mental health, accessible forms of self-care, and coping skills, in addition to connecting folks to local resources related to mental wellness and behavioral health. A mindful movement class will also be taught at 11 a.m. on the park lawn.

Partners include: Escucha Tus Emociones, Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin, I Am Chronically Resilient, Milwaukee County Parks, RISE Drug Free MKE, The Village, Wauwatosa Health Department, and Community Advocates Public Policy Institute.

“As Milwaukee residents ourselves, we have noticed that there is a lot of healing in being in community with one another and talking about the struggles of stress, anxiety, and depression, among other mental health challenges, but more importantly, sharing stories and resources about what helps overcome these challenges,” said Cecilia Tenorio, Community Advocates Public Policy Institute’s Mental Health and Wellness Coordinator. “Too many conversations around mental health are happening behind closed doors, in whispered voices or not at all, and we want to lend our voices to open, positive conversations in more public spaces around the city.”

All are welcome to attend this free community event, which is part of a series of Milwaukee County-based events and activities designed to highlight the importance of caring for one’s mental health. Get the full list of events at this link.

Mental Health Awareness Month aims to increase awareness about the vital role mental health plays in our overall health and well-being and provides resources and information to support individuals and communities who may need mental health support.
