I-94 Lane Restriction to Start Friday Night

Westbound lane closure begins at 68th St.

By - Nov 18th, 2014 12:15 pm

I-94 West will be closed overnight on Friday, November 21st as crews set a long term closure of the left lane on I-94 westbound from 68th Street to 84th Street. The lane restriction will be in place until late 2015.

Friday’s work will start at 11 PM and, when finished, will have the left lane of westbound I-94 closed until late 2015. This lane reduction is part of the reconstruction of the east leg of the Zoo Interchange. Back ups are expected and motorists are encouraged to consider alternate routes. Greenfield Avenue is the primary alternate route.

Drivers will see in place a “Zipper Merge” that will be used to take the traffic from the left lane and merge with the center lane of traffic. The “Zipper Merge” system encourages the use of all lanes up to the closure. Drivers are then directed to take turns merging into the open lane. This system is designed to optimize travel through the closure area. Details on alternate routes and how to use the “Zipper Merge” are available on the zooic.org webpage.

As always, motorists are reminded to plan ahead and allow for extra travel time during the reconstruction of the Zoo Interchange.
