Former Madison Mayors Endorse Tony Evers for Governor
Evers has also already received the endorsement of former US Senator Herb Kohl, former Lt. Governor Barbara Lawton, former Rep. Steve Kagen MD, and nearly a dozen current and former legislators.
MADISON – Tony Evers, State Superintendent of Public Schools and Democratic candidate for Governor, is proud to announce the endorsement of Sue Bauman and Joel Skornicka, two former City of Madison mayors. Evers has also already received the endorsement of former US Senator Herb Kohl, former Lt. Governor Barbara Lawton, former Rep. Steve Kagen MD, and nearly a dozen current and former legislators.
“Now more than ever, we need effective leadership. Wisconsinites are looking for a Governor that will actually get things done – not stage self-serving campaign stunts or pick unnecessary political battles. Tony Evers has the heart, intelligence and commonsense approach to finally unify Wisconsin and there is no doubt in my mind he will lead us into more prosperous times,” Bauman said.
“For the last seven years, we’ve seen what executive mismanagement looks like. Not only has Scott Walker failed to serve the majority of the people he was elected to represent, but in too many cases, put his own political ambition ahead of the job he was elected to do. Tony Evers will always do what’s right – regardless of the political pressures and special interests,” Skornicka commented.
Sue Bauman served as Madison mayor from 1997-2003. She is a former educator, MTI President and Madison alderwoman. Skornicka, a lifelong Democrat, served as Madison mayor from 1979-1983. He also worked as Assistant Chancellor at UW-Madison prior to becoming mayor.
Tony Evers won three statewide elections as State Superintendent of Public Instruction, winning 70 of 72 counties in his last election with 70 percent of the vote. Evers has been educating our kids his entire career as a science teacher, high school principal and school district superintendent. As State Superintendent, Evers is responsible for over 70,000 educators and 860,000 students. Originally from Plymouth, Evers is proud to be the father of three children and six grandchildren, raising his family in Baraboo, Tomah, Oakfield, Omro, Oshkosh and Verona.
