Former House Speaker Paul Ryan visits UWM as part of Distinguished Lecture Series
MILWAUKEE_ Former House Speaker Paul Ryan will share insights on leadership in Congress and the fiscal and economic challenges facing the country during a visit Feb. 23 to UW-Milwaukee as part of the Distinguished Lecture Series.
The conversation moderated by political columnist and commentator Charlie Sykes will begin at 7 p.m. in the ballroom at the UWM Student Union, 2200 E. Kenwood Blvd., Milwaukee.
Ryan served as the 54th Speaker of the House from October 2015 to January 2019 and represented Wisconsin’s First Congressional District for two decades. He ran for vice president in 2012.
Currently, Ryan serves as a professor of practice at the University of Notre Dame. He is a visiting fellow in the practice of public policy at the American Enterprise Institute. Ryan also serves on the board of trustees of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute, and the board of directors for the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
His most recent book is titled “American Renewal: A Conservative Plan to Strengthen the Social Contract and Save the Country’s Finances.”
A sign language interpreter will be provided. The event is sponsored by the Tommy G. Thompson Center on Public Leadership in partnership with UW-Milwaukee, UWM Student Involvement, the UWM Alumni Association and the university’s political science and economics departments.
