Potawatomi Hotel & Casino Celebrates 141st Kentucky Derby with Milwaukee's hottest party, much more
MILWAUKEE (April 13, 2015) – The 141st Kentucky Derby will be run in Louisville, Ky., on May 2. But Potawatomi Hotel & Casino will be the place to go in Milwaukee to make wagers, watch the action and revel in “the most exciting two minutes in sports.”
And this year, the casino is offering free to guests the biggest and best Kentucky Derby party in the area, featuring plenty of traditional southern food, mint juleps, all of the great racing action on plenty of big screens and music from 88nine Radio Milwaukee DJ Tarik Moody. Guests will also have the opportunity to wager on the race on self-service machines at the party. The party is open to the public ages 21 and over and will be held in the Woodland Dreams Ballroom from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free.
“Potawatomi Hotel & Casino is taking it to another level this year for the Kentucky Derby,” said Paul Lurenz, Jr., off-track betting manager for the property. “As the only property in town where one can wager on horse racing’s biggest event, Potawatomi wants to make this the best party in town. This will be the perfect place to celebrate for both the racing enthusiast and the casual fan.”
All guests are also invited to participate in the casino’s annual Kentucky Derby hat contest, which will take place during the day’s festivities. Registration will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 2, at the program sales booth near the Sky Walk. Judging will take place from 3:30-5 p.m. and a top-10 will be introduced to the partygoers in the Woodland Dreams ballroom. The lucky winners will walk away with cash prizes.
In addition, guests can wager and watch the race in the casino’s Off-Track Betting Room where doors will open at 8:30 a.m. May 2, and in the Northern Lights Theater open to the public at 9 a.m.
As in previous years, Fire Keeper’s Club members will receive a commemorative Kentucky Derby mint julep glass when they present their wagering ticket at the Off-Track Betting program sales booth (while supplies last).
Guests can also get into the mood with the Woodford Reserve Derby Dinner on April 30 at Dream Dance Steak. Five courses will be paired with cocktails featuring Woodford Reserve Kentucky Bourbon. Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $85 per person. Call (414) 847-7884 for reservations.
