Derrick Van Orden Lies, Numbers Don’t
MADISON, Wis. — Derrick Van Orden insists he “will have no part” in cutting Medicaid. Unfortunately, the budget resolution he voted for last night makes it almost impossible for Congress to avoid cutting Medicaid.
Under the resolution supported by Van Orden last night, Republicans are demanding the House Energy & Commerce Committee make $880 billion in cuts. The House Energy & Commerce Committee only oversees $200 billion in non-health care spending.
As noted by the New York Times, “even if the committee cuts everything that’s not health care to $0, it will still be more than $600 billion short.”
