Congresswoman Gwen Moore Votes Against Giving DOGE a Blank Check

By - Mar 11th, 2025 04:53 pm

“I simply cannot support legislation which will greenlight DOGE’s illegitimate efforts, further undermine IRS enforcement and the Social Security administration (SSA) with reckless cuts, and throw veterans, hungry children, seniors, and hardworking Americans under the bus. By excluding critical congressional directions on how to spend nearly $2 trillion in federal funding, this funding bill violates Congress’ exclusive ‘power of the purse,’ giving DOGE cronies broad authority to redirect or freeze funds as they please.

DOGE’s rogue activity has already undermined lawfully established federal agencies, costing tens of thousands of hardworking federal employees their livelihoods. This includes attacking the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), and its important efforts to protect American consumers from fraudsters, recovering billions of dollars for Americans and driving fraudsters out of business.

Unlike House Republicans, I refuse to cede my power as a member of Congress to Elon Musk. After sounding the alarm on Musk-Trump’s recklessness, I am not backing down now. Musk has said that he wants to target your Social Security benefits and Medicaid. You can’t be appalled if you empowered these assaults on the social contract that binds all Americans. I am calling on House Republicans to come back to the negotiating table to stop their government shutdown from wreaking havoc on our communities.”
