During today’s meeting of the Common Council, the Council adopted file #220294, a resolution transferring ownership of the 6767 North 60th Street tiny homes community project to the Veterans Community Project. The tiny homes initiative – created by legislation sponsored by Alderwoman Chantia Lewis in 2019 – seeks to bring nearly 50 tiny homes and a community center to a formally city-owned parcel in the 9th Aldermanic District.

Alderwoman Lewis, herself a U.S. military veteran, is excited to see the first-of-its-kind initiative in Milwaukee move forward in partnership with the Veterans Community Project, which has completed a similar project in Kansas City, Missouri. “The tiny homes initiative has been a labor of love and is of significant importance to me, and I am grateful to see this project move forward to provide crucial housing, support services, security and dignity that my veteran brothers and sisters so very much deserve,” she said. “I also want to extend my sincere appreciation to the Veterans Community Project for stepping up and helping us push this critical effort forward.”

It is anticipated that the Veterans Community Project will be able to complete the tiny homes initiative by summer 2024. Additional information on file #220294 can be found here.
