Milwaukee, WIMilwaukee County Parks is thrilled to announce the upcoming “Women and Girls in Science” event, set to take place on February 9th from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Kosciuszko Community Center at 2201 S. 7th St. in Milwaukee. This enriching event organized by the Wehr Nature Center staff, is dedicated to breaking the traditional stereotypes associated with careers in science and aims to inspire the next generation of female leaders in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM).

What often comes to mind when imagining a scientist is likely a man in a white lab coat, however, this event challenges that image by highlighting the vital contributions of women in STEAM fields and providing a platform for local women leaders to mentor young enthusiasts through engaging, hands-on activities.
Event Highlights Include:

  • Interactive STEAM Activities: Participants can explore various aspects of science and technology through practical, fun activities designed to ignite a passion for learning and discovery.
  • Meet STEAM Pioneers: Learn about the groundbreaking work of female pioneers in STEAM fields and how their contributions have shaped our world.
  • Mentorship Opportunities: Engage with local women who are currently leading the way in their respective STEAM fields, providing an invaluable connection to real-world applications and careers.

This event is open to all, though it is especially recommended for individuals aged 10 and up. Admission is free; however, participants are kindly requested to pre-register to ensure a spot in this inspiring event.

“We are proud to support an event that not only highlights the achievements of women in the sciences but also fosters an environment where young girls can see themselves as the next generation of innovators and leaders,” said Carly Hintz, Director of the Wehr Nature Center.

Additionally, Wehr Nature Center expresses its profound gratitude to We Energies for their generous support, making this event possible.

Join us to discover that anyone can be a scientist and explore the endless possibilities within the realms of STEAM.
