Bronzeville Week 2024 begins this weekend

Bronzeville Week, an official City of Milwaukee event hosted by Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs now in its 13th year, begins this weekend and will include an entire week of family-friendly events and vendors that promote health, art, culture, commerce, and a positive atmosphere in the Bronzeville neighborhood
for all to enjoy.

Tomorrow – Saturday, August 3 – at 8 a.m. Bronzeville Week officially kicks off with the 2024 HaRUNbee 5K Run/Walk for Healthy Birth Outcomes. The mission of the HaRUNbee Walk/Run is to promote wellness by encouraging families to stay healthy and fit, both mentally and physically. Additional info can be found at https://www.harunbee.com/.

Following the run/walk will be two simultaneous events. Brunch in Bronzeville will take place from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at participating locations, and will offer visitors a taste of what Bronzeville has to offer. Brunch locations include: Flame 13, 2230 N. Dr. MLK Jr. Drive; Mi Casa Su Café, 1835 N. Dr. MLK Jr. Drive; and Pepperpot, 2215 N. Dr. MLK Jr. Drive. Also happening from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. will be the Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy Community BBQ. The event will take place on Vel R. Phillips Ave. between North Ave. and Garfield Ave.

On Sunday, August 4, the Bronzeville Cultural & Arts Festival takes center stage from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. along North Ave. between Dr. MLK Jr. Drive and 7th Street. There will be an outdoor combined service for Empowerment Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to noon on the Gospel Stage at N. Dr. MLK Jr. Dr. and W. North Ave.

The Cultural & Arts Festival will include a variety of local vendors, food offerings, three stages of live entertainment, and a kids’ zone. Returning this year to the festival is the inclusion of Big Truck Day. Taking place in the kids’ zone, young people can gain exposure to some of the big trucks and equipment utilized by the Milwaukee Fire Department and Department of Public
Works.

Bronzeville Week continues on Monday, August 5 with a variety of events. First for the day is a virtual event, Just Us and Books with Danette Justus. The event can be viewed starting at 10 a.m. on the Bronzeville Week Facebook page, Facebook.com/BronzevilleWeek. The day continues with Building in Bronzeville: Tour and Talk at noon. The event will begin at the Bronzeville Estates, 2323 N. Dr. William Finlayson St. Finally, the day concludes with The State of the Village: A Conversation About Community, Past and Present. The conversation will occur at America’s Black Holocaust Museum, 408 W. North Ave. A reception will begin at 5 p.m. with the program starting at 5:30 p.m.

Bronzeville Week is hosted by Alderwoman Coggs, and is supported by the City of Milwaukee, Historic King Drive
