As Wisconsinites Go Without Groceries, GOP Gubernatorial Candidate Tom Tiffany Stays Silent
MADISON, Wis. — As the 700,000 SNAP recipients in Wisconsin face the first week of feeding their households since Donald Trump decided to illegally withhold funds starting November 1st, Republican candidate for governor Tom Tiffany is staying silent. Wisconsinites are already facing a tariff-induced rise in grocery prices and are struggling to make ends meet in a cost-of-living crisis. With Thanksgiving right around the corner and Trump refusing to restore full funding, Tiffany’s silence is deafening.
Earlier this year, Tom Tiffany voted for the Big Ugly Bill which he enthusiastically supported, saying it was a “game changer” for America. The bill was the largest cut to SNAP in the program’s history. Over 700,000 Wisconsinites receive SNAP benefits—60% are households with children and 38% are households with at least one member that is elderly or disabled. Tiffany has celebrated Ron Johnson’s attempts at greater cuts in the Big Ugly Bill, saying “Go, Ron, go” and that Republicans must “push every single opportunity” for cuts.
