As Planned Parenthood Stops Abortion Care in Wisconsin, Gop Gov Candidate Tom Tiffany Makes It Clear He Would Further Restrict Access
MADISON, Wis. — Yesterday, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin announced it would be forced to stop providing abortion services due to the GOP’s Big Ugly Bill. At the same time, Republican candidate for governor Tom Tiffany made it crystal clear that, if given the chance, he would go even further in restricting abortion access in Wisconsin.
Tiffany has spent the past three days dodging questions and trying to rewrite his record. Kicking off his campaign with an interview with Dan O’Donnell, he claimed that a six-week abortion ban is “no longer” his position — despite cosponsoring a bill in 2023 that did just that and made no exceptions for rape or incest. And then, on UpFront, he claimed he’d “evaluate” legislation that restricted abortion before 20 weeks. Forgetting what he had said in those other two interviews, Tiffany, in an interview FOX 6, refused to say if he would veto a six-week ban if it came to his desk.“Tom Tiffany’s spin-the-wheel for an answer approach to abortion is telling voters everything they need to know about his efforts to hide his extreme record,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Philip Shulman. “Tom Tiffany thinks he can cover it up with vague statements, but Wisconsinites will know they can’t trust him.”
If elected governor, Tiffany wouldn’t protect reproductive rights, he’d gut them. He’s continuously ripped away access to essential health care from his own constituents, all while enjoying taxpayer-funded coverage in Washington. Wisconsinites deserve better than a politician who won’t stand up for their freedom to make personal medical decisions.
