Another job well done by MPD officers
Statement from Alderman Jim Bohl September 10, 2015
Milwaukee police officers again put their lives on the line in arresting three armed robbery suspects following two incidents in the 5th Aldermanic District Wednesday.
The suspects first pointed a gun at a woman in a parking lot at 10300 W. Silver Spring Dr. and stole her vehicle, and soon after robbed a woman of her purse at gunpoint in a grocery store parking lot at N. 92nd St. and W. Lisbon Ave.
MPD officers tracked the vehicle using its OnStar system, and after spotting it a pursuit ensued, which ended with a violent crash near N. 54th and W. Congress. The three suspects were arrested shortly after the crash, which sent the MPD squad car through a fence and into a yard.
Two of the officers sustained injuries in the crash, and I wish them a speedy and full recovery.
This incident, along with the Milwaukee firefighter who was assaulted late last week while on a medical response call, shows all too well the volatility and danger faced by our protected services in the field. We must redouble our efforts in the city to ensure we are taking the necessary steps to maximize the safety of these dedicated employees on a day-to-day basis.
Again, I want to share my great appreciation to the MPD and to our officers for another job well done.
