Alderman Burgelis, Supervisor Capriolo, and Alderperson Zamarripa Announce Bilingual South Side Community ICE Awareness Meeting
Alderman Peter Burgelis, Milwaukee County Supervisor Sky Capriolo, Alderperson JoCasta Zamarripa, Common Council President Alderman José Pérez, and Supervisors Caroline Gomez-Tom and Juan-Miguel Martinez today announced a South Side community meeting presented in English and Spanish focused on immigration rights, public safety, and preparedness amid growing concerns about potential Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity in Milwaukee.
“As an immigrant-rich community, the South Side deserves clear, accurate information and reassurance that our local institutions are focused on safety, dignity, and the rule of law,” said Alderman Peter Burgelis. “This meeting is about empowering residents with knowledge, connecting them to trusted resources, and making sure people know they are not alone.”
The event will provide residents with updates on current conditions, information on individual rights, and practical guidance on how families can be prepared and informed. Local leaders and community organizations will share resources and answer questions from attendees.
“Community safety starts with transparency and trust,” said Milwaukee County Supervisor Sky Capriolo. “By bringing people together and sharing accurate information, we can reduce fear, combat misinformation, and strengthen our neighborhoods.”
Alderperson JoCasta Zamarripa emphasized the importance of accessibility and solidarity. “Our South Side is strong because of its diversity and deep sense of community,” she said. “This conversation is about standing together, ensuring residents know their rights, and reinforcing that Milwaukee is a city that values all of its people.”
Featured guests will include Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman, Milwaukee County Sheriff Denita Ball, and representatives from community organizations including Voces de la Frontera and the Milwaukee Turners.
Residents are encouraged to attend and to share the event information widely. Additional information on immigration rights and responsibilities is available through the City of Milwaukee’s Know Your Rights & Resources website, and the Milwaukee County resource page.
