MPS to Make on-the-Spot Job Offers to Licensed Teachers at Aug. 20 Career Fair

District pushing to fill open positions before school begins Sept. 1

(MILWAUKEE)Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) will extend tentative job offers to licensed teachers on the spot at a community job fair taking place August 20 on Milwaukee’s west side, Superintendent Brenda Cassellius announced today.

The Milwaukee All Professions Career Fair will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday, August 20, at the Tripoli Shrine Center, 3000 W. Wisconsin Ave. Admission to the career fair and parking are free. The fair is presented by Superior Career Fairs.

“We are working urgently to fill every open teaching position in our district with a licensed educator,” Dr. Cassellius said. “We have made great progress in reducing our class sizes and hiring more teachers, which is a key part of our strategy to accelerate academic performance. Every student in MPS deserves to have a qualified, caring, and talented teacher.”

The district is hiring teachers across multiple grade levels and subject areas, and also is hiring substitute teachers and paraprofessionals.

Job seekers may register online through Superior Career Fairs and upload résumés, if they wish.

For the 2026–27 school year, the district is prioritizing investing directly in classrooms in part by adding teaching positions to manage and reduce class sizes while raising employee salaries.

The district offers a competitive compensation package, including excellent benefits and a pay structure that rewards teachers for length of service and continued education.

MPS’s Talent Management Department in the Office of Human Resources so far this year has recruited employees at 66 events, including 11 career fairs at MPS Central Services and MPS schools that the department has sponsored. The district also held a career fair over two days in July in Chicago, where it recruited experienced teachers whose jobs with Chicago Public Schools had recently been eliminated.

Another eight career fairs so far are scheduled for the remainder of the year, reflecting the district’s approach to fully staff schools at the start of the year and continue hiring in a year-round approach. MPS has about 50 educator vacancies left to fill, compared with about 100 at this time last year, all while adding more teaching positions to manage and reduce class size. The district has a teaching staff of about 4,500, plus 1,500 educational assistants.

In September, career fairs will be held on September 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Roosevelt Creative Arts Middle School, 800 W. Walnut St., and on September 23 from 10 a.m. to noon at Central Services, 5225 W. Vliet St.

The September fairs will have on-site interviews for teacher, substitute teacher, and paraprofessional positions. Additional positions might become available.

Job seekers can direct inquiries to MPS recruitment coordinators, at mpscoordinators@milwaukeepublicschools.org.
