Satin Jazz:: The Milwaukee County Historical Society Celebrates Duke Ellingtons Birthday

MILWAUKEE, WI (April 27, 2026) – The Milwaukee County Historical Society is hosting a live music event on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, celebrating the history of jazz music and highlighting the illustrious story of Milwaukee’s own Minnette Wilson, Duke Ellington’s alleged muse that inspired his timeless tune, “Satin Doll,” performed by his direct descendant, Trace Ellington.

Satin Jazz: A Tribute to Milwaukee’s Jazz History Wednesday, April 29th Doors at 6:30pm | Performance at 7pm Milwaukee County Historical Society 910 N Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive $40 for members | $50 for general public

6:30 p.m. – Doors open

7:00 p.m. – Awards presented honoring Sam Belton, Manty Ellis, Adekola Adedapo as significant contributors to the history of jazz in Milwaukee

7:15 p.m. – Jon Mroz and the Troubadours of Rhythm playing 20s-30s early jazz

8:00 p.m. – Presentation from members of MCHS about Duke Ellington and Milwaukee jazz

8:10 p.m. – Tael Estremera Trio playing Duke Ellington tunes accompanied by Corynn Latta

8:50 p.m. – Presentation from members of MCHS about Duke Ellington’s connection to Minnette Wilson, allegedly the inspiration behind the classic song, “Satin Jazz”

9:00 p.m. – Grand finale from dancer Phairra Jones, singer Corynn Latta, and Trace Ellington playing a revolutionary version of “Satin Doll”
