City-County Emergency Food Drive Ending After Raising More than $93,000 for Families
MILWAUKEE – The City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County announced today that the emergency phase of the City-County Food Drive has concluded, following the restoration of November FoodShare benefits and the reopening of the federal government. Donation bins across City and County facilities will remain in place through Thanksgiving to support families during the holiday season, after which operations will shift to online donations only.
What began as an urgent response to uncertainty around federal FoodShare benefits quickly grew into a powerful community effort. Since launching in late October, in partnership with Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin and Nourish MKE, the initiative has collected more than $93,000 in monetary donations and over 9,000 pounds of food, helping stabilize families during a time of record demand at local food pantries. The City and County thank all partners who helped make the drive possible, including the City of Milwaukee Health Department, the Milwaukee Public Library, the Milwaukee Police Department, Milwaukee Public Schools, the Milwaukee Bucks, Mason Temple Church and other faith-based organizations, and the Brewers Community Foundation.
People can continue donating non-perishable food items through the holiday this week at locations listed at Milwaukee.gov/FoodDrive. For food assistance, or links to donate online, visit:
