Alderman DiAndre Jackson spearheaded a unique collaboration between the Sherman Park Grocery Store and the Local 212 FAST Fund at Milwaukee Area Technical College, aimed at easing the hardships faced by MATC students impacted by the recent historic flooding.

Alderman Jackson said Sherman Park Grocery Store (4315 W. Fond du Lac Ave.) and Local 212 FAST Fund at MATC, founded in 2016 by Local 212, the college’s faculty and professional staff union, will provide pre-paid food cards to help flood affected students. “These are two pillars of the community coming together in the face of this disaster to help students who are in need,” he said.

“This partnership shows the strength of our community after such a difficult flood. I’m thankful to Sherman Park Grocery and Local 212 FAST Fund for stepping up, and I’m confident we can continue working together to support those who need it most,” the Alderman said.

MATC students impacted by the flooding can contact the FAST Fund at 414-522-4017 to learn more about the limited supply of food cards that will be available. The hours of operation are Monday–Thursday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

According to FAST Fund Director Bria Burress, the partnership is designed to offer relief to MATC students impacted by the devastating August 9–10 flooding in Milwaukee County.

“Our mission is to help students experiencing economic emergencies with rapid financial support and to promote public and MATC policies on issues impacting MATC students so they remain enrolled and achieve academic success,” Ms. Burress said. “We welcome community members and businesses who would like to help strengthen this collaboration to please contact us.”

Maurice “Moe” Wince, owner of Sherman Park Grocery Store, said he is proud of the partnership with the FAST Fund, and is pleased to be able to help MATC students in need. “Our role at Sherman Park Grocery Store is to be a vital part of the community, ensuring every neighbor feels valued. That commitment extends to MATC students who were affected by the flooding,” he said.
