Bronzeville Week concludes with actor workshop, art walk, and more

Bronzeville Week, an official City of Milwaukee event hosted by Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs now in its 15th year, is nearing its conclusion with a variety of family-friendly events and vendors that promote health, art, culture, commerce, and a positive atmosphere in the Bronzeville neighborhood for all to enjoy.

Friday, August 8 begins at 1 p.m. with What’s up with the YWCA of Southeast Wisconsin. This information event will include food, fun activities, tours and resources as a celebration of community and collaboration. The event takes place at YWCA, 1915 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. Beginning at 4 p.m. is Voices of Milwaukee Bronzeville – a Bronzeville talk back with author Dr. Sandra E. Jones taking place at Niche Book Bar, 1937 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. From 6 – 8 p.m. at Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy, 2212 N. Vel R. Phillips Ave. will be From Script to Screen: An Acting Workshop with Rotimi of the Chi. The Artist Rotimi will facilitate a 2-hour actor’s workshop, which includes reading and analyzing scripts and engaging with participants. Registration required at tinyurl.com/48jbh3m2. Finally, Friday concludes with the annual Bronzeville Sleepover for Education. The Sleepover for Education will take place from 7 p.m. on Friday through 8 a.m. on Saturday at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. and North Ave.

Bronzeville Week’s concluding day, Saturday, August 9, begins with Pancakes & Poetry with Mario the Poet. The event will take place at 9:30 a.m. at Rise & Grind Café, 2737 N. Dr, Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr.

The Bronzeville Ride steps off from Nice Book Bar, 1937 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. at 10:30 a.m. Meetup for the ride starts at 10 a.m. The Crowned in Color: Bronzeville Art Walk will take place from 4 – 7 p.m. at Food for Health, 2007 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. The Art Walk is an immersive gallery experience celebrating Milwaukee’s local artistry, neighborhood storytelling, and cultural pride on Historic King Drive. Registration required at historickingdrive.com/artwalk. The final event of Bronzeville Week is Feel the Culture: An Intimate Evening with LaRoyce Hawkins of Chicago P.D. Experience the soul of music, culture, and healing as we welcome LaRoyce Hawkins for an intimate conversation, as well as enjoy TV-inspired games, and an interactive Q&A session.
