A very public concern about private parties
Statement of Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs
It has come to my attention that large private parties have been planned at non-commercially active city locations during the RNC that require zero notification to nearby residents and no long-term coordination with local authorities.
Again, I recognize that is not right and I will be working with my colleagues to find ways we can address the issue in the future.
Security is a paramount concern of mine, as these locations are outside the RNC security zone footprint. For any of these events slated to take place in the 6th Aldermanic District I am working with the Milwaukee Police Department and other city agencies to ensure that the neighbors are kept safe and that there are no disruptions that jeopardize the peaceable enjoyment of the neighborhood by residents.
Ultimately, welcoming the RNC to Milwaukee should not mean that city neighborhoods must endure large private parties without ANY notification or recourse for limitations to cushion the impact on nearby residents.
For anyone who lives nearby or does business near these large private party events: Please call 9-1-1 if you see an emergency in progress, or call MPD non-emergency at 414-933-4444 to report suspicious/illegal activity.
