Brewers Sign Right-Handed Pitcher Julio Teheran
Veteran Starter Agrees to One-Year Contract
MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers have signed right-handed pitcher Julio Teheran (teh-RON) to a one-year contract. He will make his debut with the team tonight in a start at American Family Field against San Francisco, wearing No. 49. The announcement was made by Senior Vice President and General Manager Matt Arnold.
Teheran, 32, is 78-77 with a 3.80 ERA in 240 career games (236 starts) over 11 seasons with Atlanta (2011-19), Los Angeles-AL (2020) and Detroit (2021). He made 30+ starts in seven consecutive seasons from 2013-19. He was the Braves’ Opening Day starter in six straight seasons from 2014-19. The two-time All-Star (2014 and 2016) last pitched in a Major League game in a start with the Tigers on April 3, 2021 vs. Cleveland. It was his only outing that season.
After pitching in the independent Atlantic League (Staten Island) and Mexican League (Tijuana and Monterrey) last season, Teheran signed with San Diego in December as a non-roster invitee. He went 4-2 with a 5.63 ERA in 8 starts at Triple-A El Paso this season before opting out of his contract on May 22.
The Cartagena, Colombia native founded the Teheran Foundation in 2016. The foundation provides activities and games as well as financial support to children in need.
