MILWAUKEE, October 11, 2021….  The AAA Four Diamond Pfister Hotel, owned and managed by Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, is in search of its next Artist in Residence. This internationally acclaimed Artist in Residence program has hosted career artists in a multitude of mediums from across the United States, giving them the opportunity to be at the forefront of Milwaukee’s thriving art scene. In conjunction with the beginning of the hotel’s search for its next Artist in Residence, the hotel will also celebrate its current Artist in Residence Christopher T Wood at Gallery Night MKE on October 21, 2022.

“Christopher has been a tremendous addition to our prestigious Artist in Residence program,” said Briana Greer, chief concierge of The Pfister Hotel. “His daily drawings captivate our guests and allow them to share their ideas and thoughts to inspire his next piece, drawing them closer to his work and connecting our community of guests, both near and far. We are looking forward to our next Artist in Residence creating opportunities for our guests to feel engaged to the art in this iconic hotel.”

The Pfister’s Artist in Residence program allows emerging and mid-career artists to share their work and interact with guests one-on-one as their art evolves over the year inside the hotel’s first floor studio space. In addition to time in the studio gallery, the Artist in Residence hosts receptions, classes, and Gallery Night events for guests to understand their creative process firsthand. Throughout the year-long residency at The Pfister, the artist will also create a Legacy Piece for the hotel that will be added to its permanent collection.

Each Artist in Residence is selected from a pool of highly qualified candidates by a committee of local influential art enthusiasts. The committee considers the artist’s vision for the gallery space, their body of work, artistic process, and personality. The committee determines five finalists for this award-winning program who will showcase their work and interact with the committee and visitors at Milwaukee’s Gallery Night on January 20, 2023. The new Artist in Residence will be announced in March 2023.

The next artist, who will succeed Wood, will move into the hotel’s studio space April 1, 2023, and will work at the hotel for one year and spend a minimum of 30 hours each week in the studio. The artist will receive a $2,000 monthly stipend, complimentary meals at Café at The Pfister, and a $500 monthly house spend account to use for entertaining new and potential buyers.

The deadline to apply for the program is Monday, December 5, 2022. Interested artists can apply online at https://www.thepfisterhotel.com/artist-in-residence/apply-online.

Gallery Night MKE on October 21

Current Pfister Artist-in-Residence Christopher T Wood will host a group exhibition alongside a curated group of other local artists during Gallery Night MKE on October 21, 2022. The exhibition will feature small works focused on the natural world that will be for sale. Half of all proceeds from the Gallery Night event will be donated to the Urban Ecology Center in Milwaukee, a nonprofit organization that connects the city’s children and families with urban parks and educational programs.

About The Pfister Hotel
At more than 125 years old, The Pfister Hotel is one of the oldest and most prestigious hotels in the Midwest and downtown Milwaukee. Originally opened in 1893 by businessman Guido Pfister, it was the most lavish hotel of its time. The hotel’s storied elegance had faded following World War II, until 1962, when Ben Marcus, founder of The Marcus Corporation, purchased this grand hotel out of bankruptcy. The Marcus Corporation renovated and restored the hotel to its original glory, adding convention facilities, a parking garage and 23-story guest tower. The Pfister Hotel is home to the largest collection of Victorian art of any hotel in the world, as well as an award-winning Artist in Residence program.

Today, The Pfister Hotel continues its tradition of gracious service and impeccable style and has been recognized by AAA as a Four Diamond property for 46 consecutive years. The hotel is also consistently recognized by top national industry and travel publications and associations, such as Condé Nast Traveler’s annual Reader’s Choice Awards as a Top Hotel in the Midwest. This exceptional property is a member of two distinguished hotel organizations, Historic Hotels of America and Preferred Hotels & Resorts.
