Seeing a friend lose a son to gun violence
Statement of Alderman Russell W. Stamper, II March 24, 2021
A good friend and community leader lost her son in a shooting on Monday night in the 3700 block of W. Wright St. in the 15th Aldermanic District. I am respecting the family’s privacy at this time by not identifying her or her son, and I have offered my love and sincere condolences to her and to the family.
The loving family of this man is feeling the deepest pain and sadness imaginable. I was there to offer comfort in the wake of the senseless shooting, and as I hugged her I felt so sad for her and her family and also anger afterward at what we continue to experience and accept in our community.
Everybody has to help to work to prevent conflict and violence, and those who know better and want better are also responsible for helping to change this community and for helping to put a stop to all of the killing.
