Milwaukee Police Rescue Domestic Violence Hostage

MILWAUKEE, WI – On Monday, March 22, 2020, at 3:57 a.m., the Milwaukee Police officers were dispatched to a shooting on the 7600 block of N. 78th Street.

The caller reported hearing gunshots and children yelling. Upon arrival, officers heard shots and two children from the residence were able to exit. A tactical setup was initiated and crisis negotiators responded.

After several hours of trying to negotiate a peaceful resolution, the suspect fired a shot. Officers from the Tactical Enforcement Unit made a determination to enter the residence to rescue the hostage and were met by gunfire from the suspect. Officers were able to rescue the hostage. Officers arrested the suspect, a 32-year-old man from Milwaukee, without further incident. Officers did not return fire and no one was injured as a result of the suspect’s gunfire. This incident is domestic violence related.

The victim, 30-year-old woman from Milwaukee, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated on the scene by the Milwaukee Fire Department.

The Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Milwaukee Police Department continues to investigate this incident. Criminal charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the upcoming days.
