Council approves sale of city-owned foreclosed property to be used as a resource hub
Yesterday (Tuesday, Nov. 24) the Common Council approved the sale of a city-owned foreclosed property in the Harambee neighborhood that will be rehabbed and used as a resources hub for residents. The property – located at 2979 N. Palmer St. – will be sold to WestCare Wisconsin and renovated to accommodate its use as a resource center and community hub.
Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs, the primary sponsor of the resolution authorizing the sale (Council File #200931), said she is pleased that the property will be put to positive use for the neighborhood.
“The goal is for the property to become a beacon of positivity and productivity, and a place where residents can go for information about city resources, services, and opportunities to aid in the improvement of their quality of life,” the Alderwoman continued.
The 2019 City budget provided $375,000 in capital funding to the Department of City Development for the program to identify and put to use (via sale to a community partner organization) community resource hub properties in each of the city’s four Promise Zone neighborhoods.
Alderman Ashanti Hamilton and Alderman José G. Pérez joined Alderwoman Coggs as cosponsors on File #200931.
