UWM College of Nursing expands program to UWM at Waukesha
UW-Milwaukee College of Nursing is excited to announce that its program is expanding to UWM at Waukesha beginning in fall 2021. The expansion will allow students to complete a four-year nursing degree almost entirely at the Waukesha campus.
The program will provide Waukesha and surrounding communities access to the only four-year nursing program at a public university within a 60-mile radius. Nursing will be the first bachelor’s degree program to be offered on-site at UWM at Waukesha since the integration of the institutions in 2018. The expansion to Waukesha will provide active learning space, clinical simulation and the ability to have clinical placements in Waukesha or Washington counties. Students at Waukesha will have to come to UWM’s Milwaukee campus only for a few clinical practice simulations.
UWM College of General Studies Dean Simon Bronner said, “We are welcoming the College of Nursing with open arms to UWM at Waukesha. The partnership with our colleges allows students to complete their four-year nursing degree closer to home and serve the needs of our growing communities in the region.”
This expansion comes when demand for health care professionals in Waukesha and surrounding counties continue to grow. According to the Waukesha-Ozaukee-Washington Workforce Development Board, health care employment in those three counties is expected to increase by 16% – an additional 13,000 workers – by 2022.
In fall 2021, the nursing program will admit up to 32 students to begin clinical practice. Applicants should have two years of pre-nursing coursework completed by next fall to be eligible to apply to the professional major program for fall 2021. Students can begin applying to the professional major on Nov. 9, 2020. Learn more at www.uwm.edu/nursing.
