DPW demands more information on Ron Johnson’s Russia trip

MADISON — In light of special counsel Robert Mueller’s decision to indict 12 Russian intelligence agents in connection with 2016 hacking efforts to interfere in our nation’s elections, the Democratic Party of Wisconsin is demanding more information on Sen. Ron Johnson’s secret all-GOP trip to Russia last week, after which Johnson downplayed the threat of Russian election interference, saying “[it’s] not the greatest threat[s] to our democracy” and “when you look at threats to this nation I look at much larger threats.”
“Who did Ron Johnson meet with in Russia on his secret all Republican trip to Russia, and why did he return spewing out Russian talking points?” asked Martha Laning, chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. “Russia interfered in our elections. That is a fact. It is also a fact that dozens of people have been charged with crimes in relation to the tampering. So why would Ron Johnson willingly go to Russia knowing this?
“This was an all-out attack on our democracy. Russia continues to pose a threat to our national security, and it is deeply disturbing that Ron Johnson hasn’t taken this credible, well-investigated threat seriously.
“Wisconsinites deserve some answers. At best, Ron Johnson is a foolish oblivious cog in Russia’s efforts to undermine our democracy. At worst, he’s deeply corrupt.”

Ron Johnson is reprehensible because of he does the slavish bidding for the global capitalist and global finance far right at the expense of the people, voters, workers he does not view as his constituency. The Democratic Party is just as reprehensible for their continual harping about Russia and other side issues while they also silently and stealthily cooperate with and promote global capitalism and global finance at our expense. People – we have no party to represent us politically and economically. It is time to think about organizing one that is NOT co-opted by or has roots in the Democratic Party. Don’t kid yourself into thinking the Dem party is the lessor of two evils. It is the other half of evil.
We can only hope this guy keeps his two term promise. He is a constant embarrassment to Wisconsin.
Everyone has witness the transformation of the republican party over the past years but Ron Johnson is a leader of this pack of corrupt officials. When he first ran for senate, he was considered a true business leader who had a financial interest in balancing budgets and fiscal responsibility, and a strong democracy. Now look at him, corrupt, stupid comments, stupid acts, a fox news hypocrite, treasonous, and certainly not a true fiscal conservative. Balanced budget no long matter as long as you and your cronies keep power. Financial responsibility will only be important again if Dems take control again. What a useless politician.
The optics are Stalinist, it is apparent the GOP is part and parcel to the Russian scandal. Russian media mocked them as being weak and appeasing Putin. Vote these traitors out!

Freedom means being able to go anywhere you want for any holiday or at any other time for that matter. So, good for you, Ron as you demonstrate this freedom. I would jump at the idea of going to Russia myself, whatever the timing.
Privilege means having someone else pay for the holiday trip. Bad on you, Ron, unless you can tell us how your travel in this instance was in the interest of the country (that would be THIS country, OUR country), that we pay you to help govern.
