Bill Restricts Abortion Coverage for State Workers
No abortion coverage after rape or incest unless victim reports the crime.
A GOP bill to sharply restrict abortion coverage for state employees was approved Thursday by the Assembly on a party line vote and sent to the Senate.
The measure, Assembly Bill 128, would only allow abortions to be covered by state health plans if they are needed to save the life of the mother or to prevent serious, long-term damage to her health. The bill only allows abortion coverage in cases of rape or incest if the victim reports the crime.
The restrictions apply to current and retired state workers and local governments that participate in the state insurance plan.
Wisconsin law already prohibits insurance coverage for abortion through Medicaid and state exchanges set up for the federal Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare. The federal government and 21 states already restrict abortion coverage in their employee health insurance plans.
The bill was sponsored by Sen. David Craig, of Vernon, and Rep. Andre Jacque, of De Pere.
Anti-abortion groups in Wisconsin exercise influence on elections more by outside election spending than by direct contributions to candidates.
Outside electioneering activities, like mailings, broadcast ads and robocalls, from Pro-Life Wisconsin, Wisconsin Right to Life, and Wisconsin Family Action totaled about $207,000 between January 2010 and June 2017 – all to support Republicans and oppose Democrats seeking legislative and statewide offices. The top recipient of outside help by anti-abortion groups was Republican Gov. Scott Walker, who received about $24,600 in backing by the groups.

A couple of fat smug big government republican men denying women who are victims of rape and incest abortions. DIGUSTING!!
Abortion laws and restrictions should be put on hold until the larger issue is DISCUSSED! Equating abortion with contraception is the major problem. If contraception was made more available, abortions should and have decreased. Less pregnancies less reasons for abortion. Why then does one religious or political belief get to restrict another human being’s right to have sex. Sex has been around longer than both religion and government. Religions and governments should not be involving themselves in sex between consenting adults, period. There should only be laws concerning non-consensual sex in cases of violence, rape, assault, harassment and sex with minors. After that, it is no one’s business, it’s just sex. Why does someone feel they have a right to legislate that? First we must agree that sex is not wrong. We must promote responsibility and allow people the accessibility to avoid pregnancy before you should even discuss abortion. Anyone who believes sex is only for procreation is doing it wrong.
@John, you are correct and overall abortion rates are at multi decade lows for just that reason, more access to sex ed and contraception for young people. Now why so called freddom and liberty loving republicans want to try to control human behavior via their big government nanny state control freak policies when it comes to sex, cannabis, gay marriage etc etc is beyond me? Never gonna happen. It’s like getting these two disgusting fatties to exercise and eat right. Never gonna happen.
