City of Milwaukee Strengthened by Mark Nicolini’s Skill and Leadership

City budget director retiring today

By - Sep 8th, 2017 03:27 pm

It’s a sad day here at City Hall and across city government as it is the last day on the job for retiring Budget Director Mark Nicolini.

For the past 30 years I have had the pleasure and privilege of working closely with Mark, a brilliant and thoughtful fiscal analyst whose quiet demeanor and class act have helped to shape and focus the future of Milwaukee for the better.

The overall stability of the city’s finances and its AA credit rating are directly attributable to Mark’s skills and leadership. He has crafted city budgets that have helped Milwaukee provide core services and address special initiatives and needs, and he’s done it all with a calm and thoughtful approach in collaboration with the Common Council and the Mayor.

In my work with Mark on the Annuity and Pension Board of the Employes’ Retirement System I quickly learned of his deep knowledge and expertise with regard to complicated investment and market factors, and his guiding hand and contributions to the pension board have played a role in making the system one of the best in the U.S.

As Milwaukeeans we are indebted to Mark Nicolini – a public servant in the truest sense – and we thank him and wish him a very happy and prosperous retirement.
