Milwaukee Writers Participate in Global #WritersResist Movement
The event can be heard on www.riverwestradio.com and on 104.1 FM.
On Sunday, January 15th, 2017, from 10:00 am to noon, more than 20 Milwaukee poets will broadcast “poetry of love & resistance” live on Riverwest Radio joining authors at 70 events across the globe. Milwaukee’s Writers Resist event will be the only event broadcast live on radio.
Writers Resist events will also be hosted in Racine, Madison, Chicago, New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Zurich, Hong Kong, and other cities. These events originated with a Facebook post by poet Erin Belieu, co-founder of VIDA: Women in Literary Arts, and quickly grew into a worldwide movement.
Writers Resist: Milwaukee is a re-inauguration of resistance, freedom, and humanity. Poets will read works dedicated to a refusal to be broken, providing a landscape of hope and an uplifting of the voices of our city. This is a free event which can either be attended in person or heard on-air from 10:00 am-noon. Donations will be accepted at the door to support Riverwest Radio, a community resource that broadcasts many Milwaukee voices.
Featured poets include Sunshine Ramel, Keith Gaustad, Heidi Erickson, Chloe Stingley, Franklin KR Cline, Alida Cardos Whaley, Michaela Lacy, Tobias Wray, Alison Henderson, Cinthia Tellez, Jes Olvera, Indigo Jade Kastel, Carina Gia Farrero, Nelson Lopez Rojas, Freesia McKee, Nina Szarka, Destinny Fletcher, and Margaret Noodin.
The event can be heard on www.riverwestradio.com and on 104.1 FM. The station is located inside of Riverwest Film & Video at 824 E. Center Street.
