Milwaukee celebrates the Chinese New Year

A Mitchell Park Domes-hosted party for the Year of the Snake ran Friday through Saturday this weekend.

In the Chinese, or Lunar, New Year, 2013 brings the Year of the Snake. Milwaukee is celebrating that new year with a weekend of family fun at the Mitchell Park Domes, put on in conjunction with the Milwaukee Chinese Community Center.

Several dance and music performances are planned for Saturday throughout the afternoon along with a dragon parade. There are arts and craft activities for the kids, a Chinese marketplace and nice selection of traditional Chinese food.

The event will run again today from 11:00am-5:00pm. More information can be found at the event’s website. ThirdCoast Digest was there for day one, and you can see a sampling of the activities in the slideshow below.
